Happy Spring dolls!
First and foremost my deepest apologies for being a little MIA! I was incredibly ill over the last month and a half, but I’m back and ready to share my modern meets retro styling tips for the spring spectacle that is the Secret Garden Dress.
The minute I saw this dress I knew that it would be absolutely perfect for a spring party, easter celebration...or even an afternoon getting in touch with your inner child at a playground? If you’re like me and have a lot of black in your wardrobe the SG is a great way to incorporate a colorful vintage pattern.
I found that the dress fits true to size, but there isn’t much stretch...so if you’re in between sizes consider going up instead of down. This piece is still incredibly comfortable and reminds me of a daytime version of the Diva Dress.
90s fashion is huge right now. From laced tattoo chokers to crop tops; there is no escaping this fun loving decade. I decided to pair the Secret Garden Dress with my brand new Spice Girl worthy Ballet Bae platforms from Dolls Kill. If you hate walking in heels or are new to them try going with a platform shoe for comfort and more stability. Wedges would also be a cute option.
I tossed on a faux leather jacket from H&M and rolled up the sleeves to give the look a little more balance with some edge. Since the dress and shoes are a huge statement in their own right, I kept my jewelry on the simple side with a power pink wrap bracelet and a vintage inspired boomerang brooch by Match Accessories on my lapel (the mint color is exclusive to Steady).
Makeup & Hair
Ah, Chiffon hair scarves; the ideal hair garment of choice for bad hair days, the lazy, or for anyone looking to give their look a little more pizzazz. Since it was a windy day in San Francisco I chose an updo with a mini suicide roll. If you’re having difficulty mastering your victory roll I’d recommend starting with a suicide roll first which rolls downward as oppose to upward!
I used my original Naked Palette for a bit of a grunge/pinup look; I used a mixture of Hustle, Sin, and Darkhorse. Fresh dewy complexions are really on trend right now so I used Too Faced’s BB cream for a soft healthy finish. For my cheeks I’m wearing Too Faced's Candlelight powder (which will give you the most ethereal glow) and Kat Von D’s Heartagram blush. I wanted a lip that was semi grunge inspired...but still soft; YSL’s Glossy Stain in 3 Brun Cachemire is the perfect happy medium for a light purple pout. If you’re a gloss girl (or guy) these stains are fabulous they’re ultra long lasting. I topped the glossy stain off with MAC's Heroine, a rich purple matte lipstick that gave me a more satin slightly deeper hue.
That’s all for now flower children! You can order your very own Secret Garden dress here. I’ll be back soon with another review soon, but until then be sure to follow my daily antics on Instagram: QueenJaninex.
